A flat and even riding arena should be 60 m long and 20 m wide. The difference in level along the diagonals or along the long wall should in no way exceed 50 cm. On short walls, the difference in level should in no way exceed 20 cm. The ground of the arena should be mostly sandy. The dimensions shown above are the internal dimensions of the arena. The distance from the arena to the spectators' space shall be at least 10 m. For indoor competitions, the distance from the arena to the wall should be at least 2 m in principle. A low white fence (consisting of separate elements) with the height of about 30 cm should serve as a ring fence for the arena. A part of the fence at the letter A should be easily movable to allow a rider to enter and to exit the arena. The design of the fences is to be in a way preventing the horse hoof from getting stuck. The letters should be located outside the arena at a distance of about 50 cm from it and be clearly visible. It is necessary to apply marks on the fence of the arena at the level of letters and in addition to them. It is prohibited to apply advertisement with letters and to fix their holders. The Arranging Committee should decide whether there should be any central marked line. When using the central line should be rolled and smooth. Avoid marking points on D-L-X-I-G. It is not recommended to use center lines in the equestrian freestyle programs, as well as in competitions among young athletes.
Judges' Place
Three judges take their places along the short wall of the arena, outside it at a distance of a maximum of 5 and at least 2 m therefrom - for competitions on the ground, and, preferably, at least 3 m — for indoor competitions. The main judge (C) is located at the extended part of the center line, and the other 2 (M and H) ones are 2.5 m to the center from the extended part of the long sides. Side judges (B and E) for competitions on the ground shall be located at a distance of a maximum of 5 and at least 3 m from the arena opposite the letters B and E, respectively. It would be better if this distance is at least 2 m for indoor competitions. If there are 3 judges, 1 of them takes place on the long side.
